Audience and level
Suitable for beginners with Office experience, intermediate users without VBA, and leads who want better table and report quality. Prerequisites: confident PC use, basic Excel (cells, simple formulas). No coding required.
Duration, format, group size
Recommended: 1 to 2 days (6 to 12 hours net), split into blocks of 90 to 120 minutes with breaks. Remote with screen share and a second monitor, or on-site / in-house. Ideal: 4 to 12 participants; larger teams in two runs.
Sample agenda (2 days)
- Day 1 morning: Clean tables, named ranges, consistent formats
- Day 1 afternoon: Filters, sorting, validation, common formula traps
- Day 2 morning: Pivot basics, sketch a recurring report layout
- Day 2 afternoon: Exercise on an anonymised example from your domain
Topics in detail
- Excel as a data tool, not a layout toy
- Separate input, logic, and output areas
- Make monthly reports predictable
- Handovers: what to document
- When Power Query or VBA makes sense (orientation only)
Typical issues we address
Common symptoms: formulas that quietly break after a column gets inserted. Numbers stored as text that silently wreck a sum. Reports only the person who built them can maintain. We work on the structure behind these problems, not just individual functions.
Exercises and materials
Short exercises in demo files plus optionally one anonymised example from your company (no personal data). Small tasks in your own files can sit between sessions.
After the training
- Structure lists and reports more clearly
- Spot and avoid typical Excel mistakes
- Tackle recurring reports without copy-paste chaos
- Judge sensible next steps (templates, automation)
